Kittens
Found Dumped on Washington Freeway A pair of frightened and freezing kittens
were found Jan. 5th 2004 at about midnight on Interstate 82 in rural Washington.
Animal rescue volunteer, Brenda Anderson, was driving home from Christmas
vacation with Dave Sizer when she noticed a mound of fur on the line between
lanes in the highway. Little eyes reflected the headlights as the creature
looked up. It was alive. After finding a turnaround and driving back several
miles, the kitten was still there sitting on the center line. Miraculously it
had not been run over by the dozens of semi-trucks or other vehicles that had
passed just inches from it's head. The kitten didn't move. Anderson reached
down to pick her up and found four little feet stuck to the center line. She
scooped her up, place the stiff and frozen body into her jacket. Suddenly she
heard a faint cry from the darkness. Walking, she followed the cry and called
until another kitten bounded over the snow bank. Two kittens found in the
middle of a ice and snow storm and miles from any house or building.
The
kittens were named Centerline Brenda and Snowbank Dave after the Whisker City
volunteers that saved them. Brenda has complications from severe frostbite and
her tail has been removed along with the skin on both hind legs. She faces
painful daily wound cleaning and future surgery. They are currently under the
care of Dr. Baxter of Northgate Veterinary Clinic. Both kittens will be
available for adoption when they are fully recovered. You can donate to Brenda
and Dave's veterinary expense via PayPal or call 206-542-9617 for more
information.
